Gomoku
The classic Chinese board game Gomoku (also known as “Five in a Row”) is popular throughout Asia and the world. A basic game that requires strategic thinking involves two players taking turns placing signs (often “X” and “O”) on a 15x15 (or 19x19) board. The player who connects five identical pieces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins.
How to play?
Board and pieces prep
The board utilizes a 15x15 or 19x19 square grid. Players choose X or O pieces.
Turning parts
X, the first player, places a piece on any unoccupied square. The other player takes over.
Goal Winning
When a player joins five horizontal, vertical, or diagonal pieces before his opponent, he wins.
Controlling balance
The “Renju” rule prohibits player X from laying a double-three, double-four, or overline in professional competition to prevent the first mover advantage.
